Verizon technician admits he sold customer data for years

According to the terms of the plea (PDF), Traeger and the PI made a deal sometime in 2009, when Traeger agreed to provide the information even though he was aware he was not authorized to access the data or provide it to a third party. Using two different internal systems, Traeger accessed call records and pinged the victims' cellphones to get their location. He then compiled all the data into spreadsheets which he passed along to the PI over email.

Traeger made only $50 per month, or about $25 per record, when he started selling the information. By the time he was finally caught in 2014, Traeger had racked up a nest egg of more than $10,000 from Verizon customers' private data. While Traeger's relatively small-time hack came from within the company, earlier this year Verizon's anti-hacking task force was hacked along with a cache of Enterprise customer data. Last year, Buzzfeed also reported that a vulnerability in Verizon's system made it painfully easy to access the accounts of home internet customers.

Josh Beard Allegedly Punched, Stomped Girlfriend's Child To Death

A young Texas couple have been arrested in the murder of an 18-month-old child who was brutally abused before being stomped to death and buried under a bridge wrapped in a blanket, police said.

Joshua Beard, 20, and Alexis Botello, 17, had only been dating for a few months prior to the death of Botello's daughter, Tylea Moore, on July 4.

In an Arlington, Texas, police affidavit obtained by The Huffington Post, officers said that Beard had called the toddler a "little demon" while punching her and that he also abused Botello when she attempted to stop him.

"Botello said Beard was pushing and yelling at Tylea," the report reads. "Botello kept yelling at him to stop, that she was just a baby and didn't understand. Beard then started yelling and hitting Botello."

The alleged abuse only grew worse from there. According to the report:

"Botello went into Tylea's room and picked her up. Tylea looked awful. Her bottom was swollen, she had bruises on her ribs, chest, arms, legs, and even on the top of her feet. She also had bite marks all over her. Tylea had two cuts on her mouth, one on the top lip and one on the bottom lip."

Botello told police that Beard began punching her as she tried to help her child. Beard allegedly then took the little girl and slammed her down on the bed so hard that she bounced off and landed on the ground. He continued to hit the child with closed fists, police said.

Beard then began stomping on Tylea's stomach "over and over again," according to the police report. When Botello tried to stop him, he allegedly hit and choked her.

The child died a short time later, police said.

Ricardo Botello, the grandfather of Tylea and father of Alexis Botello, spoke to The Huffington Post shortly after the arrest of Beard on Tuesday.

"I'm praying my daughter didn't have anything to do with this," Ricardo Botello said prior to his daughter's arrest Wednesday night.

While Tylea's grandfather was desperately searching for answers, police were gathering evidence.

Police said that after Tylea died, Beard and Botello went to a Walmart where they bought gloves and two shovels. Investigators said the couple was easily identified leaving the store from surveillance video.

The couple then drove to a remote area, dug a grave under a bridge, wrapped the little girl in a small blue blanket and buried her, according to the police report.

Investigators said they uncovered the body after Botello admitted her involvement and showed police the location.

Tylea's father, Chris Moore, is mourning the loss of his daughter. Moore, a Marine, told KDFW that despite his grief, he doesn't believe his former girlfriend was a willing participant in the crime, but instead scared for her own life.

"I hope that they see that she was in an abusive relationship," Moore told the station. "I mean, we have pictures of bruises all over [Alexis]."

Beard has been charged with capital murder. His bail has been set at $1 million. Botello has been charged as an adult with tampering with evidence of a human corpse and injury to a child. Her bail has been set at $125,000.

Now, Ricardo Botello must bury his granddaughter. "We're Catholic, and the baby was not baptized, unfortunately," he said. "But we found a diocese who will conduct the service for us, and we're thankful for that."

Botello said the grief is overwhelming.

"It hasn't been good. I'm not doing well," he said. "My family is in disarray."

Porn scandal: Top prosecutor keeps releasing raunchy emails

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Facing criminal charges, relieved of her law license and threatened with removal by the Legislature, Pennsylvania's attorney general seems to have decided that if she has to go, she's going to take others down with her.

Since all three branches of state government began moving against her over the past year, Kathleen Kane has released hundreds of sexually explicit or otherwise crude emails that had been sent or received by current or former public officials on their government accounts.

The tangled scandal has led to the downfall of a state environmental secretary and shamed a state police commissioner, a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice and several former top officials in the attorney general's office. Another high-court justice resigned after newspapers disclosed his involvement.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane arrives to be processed and arraigned on charges she leaked secret grand jury material and then lied about it under oath, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at the Montgomery County detective bureau in Norristown, Pa.

Kane has threatened to release more, and the state Capitol is ablaze with speculation about whose emails may be next in the drip-drip-drip of disclosures.

"It's a mess. It's just a freaking mess," said John Morganelli, the Northampton County district attorney and a Democrat who at one time supported Kane. "Accusations and counter-accusations. And it gets worse every day. It's like going into a war zone."

Last week, Kane's hometown newspaper, the Times-Tribune of Scranton, ran a Halloween-theme cartoon of her as a witch saying: "I'll get you my pretties ... and your filthy emails too."

Kane finds herself increasingly isolated as she awaits trial on what she says are trumped-up misconduct charges. She has rejected calls to resign from members of both parties, including Gov. Tom Wolf, a fellow Democrat, and said it is important for the public to know about the emails.

"They raise the specter of impropriety, even if none exists, and that in itself is a problem for the judicial system," said her office spokesman Chuck Ardo.

Kane, 49, was a little-known former assistant county prosecutor when she was elected attorney general in a landslide in 2012, becoming the first woman and first Democrat to win the office. Democrats embraced her as a rising star.

On the campaign trail, she promised to investigate why it took her Republican predecessors three years to charge Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach convicted of sexually abusing boys, and whether politics played a role.

After Kane took office, a special appointee concluded that the Sandusky case had not been dragged out for political reasons. But the inquiry unearthed a trove of office emails containing porn and jokes about women and minorities that many found offensive.

Kane's criticism of the Sandusky prosecution also triggered a bitter feud with investigators who handled the case, and in 2014, authorities say, she leaked confidential grand jury information to the Philadelphia Daily News in an attempt to show that two of them had bungled a corruption investigation.

Kane was charged in August with obstruction, perjury and other offenses. No trial date has been set.

As authorities began building the leak case against her, Kane started releasing chains of emails, saying the misconduct allegations against her were concocted by a corrupt old-boy network inside law enforcement to stop her from exposing their raunchy email ring.

Her argument has gained traction with some.

"I think she's being railroaded," said Lora Verbonitz, a 63-year-old Harrisburg suburbanite.

Others contend she has violated people's privacy, overstepped her authority or crossed the line of decency. Critics also accuse her of selectively releasing emails to embarrass her perceived enemies and protect loyalists -- allegations she says are unfounded.

On Oct. 1, as she left court in the leak case, she dropped another bombshell: The email scandal also involved U.S. attorneys, attorneys general and a Supreme Court justice who had voted along with the rest of the court just days earlier to suspend Kane's law license. That justice is now being investigated for possible judicial misconduct.

At the time her license was suspended, Kane released the following statement, according to CBS Philadelphia: "While I am disappointed in the court's action I am grateful that the court recognized my constitutional rights both as a democratically elected official and as a citizen of the Commonwealth. The court, in specifically recognizing my continuing authority as Attorney General of the Commonwealth, today allows me to continue the good works of this office: work which has transformed our war on sex crimes and fraud; work which will also root out the culture of misogyny and racially/religiously offensive behavior that has permeated law enforcement and members of the judiciary in this Commonwealth for years."

Also last month, the state Senate launched an inquiry that could result in Kane's removal.

Meanwhile, Kane has yet to release all the emails and the names of the participants, as she promised to do, and is fighting a courtroom attempt by The Philadelphia Inquirer to force her to make all the material public.

"I don't believe the citizens of the commonwealth need to see more pornography, but I think they need to see who the players are," said Terry Mutchler, former director of Pennsylvania's Office of Open Records and a lawyer who is representing the Inquirer.

"I think there will be an avalanche if this is all released, and I think there will be a housecleaning unlike any we have ever seen."

Why You Must Not Look – 8 Tips for Overcoming This Evil

Each of us is exposed to and bombarded by - on a daily basis - an evil that is extremely enticing and appealing, so selfishly gratifying (temporarily), so unavoidably addictive, and so incredibly damaging to our thoughts, lives, families, and society. It is a plague and modern day slavery that is slowly and subtly destructive, and yet it is justified by the supposed mass-popularity, innate natural passions within us all, and the wrongly assumed reasoning that participation in this evil is simply an expression of 'freedom' and 'choice.'

Anyone addicted to this evil - pornography - will certainly attest and declare that the reward for this selfish and addictive act is anything but 'freedom.' The reality is that thoughts become corrupted, commitments and responsibilities discarded, crimes committed, addictions developed, and selfish lusts become more important than self-control. Pornography is an industry that makes a few wealthy at the expense of destroying lives, tearing apart marriages and families, and essentially weakening the very foundation of our society.

Ironically, one aspect of pornography's destructive influence that is rarely mentioned is its negative impact on our personal, family, and even financial potential. Participation in pornography always results in: a lack of confidence, guilt and shame, mental and spiritual abilities weakened, and potential relationships ruined (relationships that are necessary not only for our happiness, but our eventual success). People involved in and addicted to this evil fail to realize that this same self-confidence, mental reasoning ability, belief in oneself, family relationships, self-control, time not wasted, spiritual awareness, and ability to overcome are the very underlying elements to success - thus, necessary to reach our full potential in anything.

And yet, in the midst of the daily bombardment of immorality seen on the TV, movies, commercials, magazines, and websites - one would logically wonder if and how it's possible to overcome such a temptation in order to fully live up to ones full potential.

Thankfully, it is possible! Let me suggest 8 tips, that if applied, will not only result in avoiding or overcoming the addictions of pornography, but actually result in personal self-confidence, family happiness, and developing the attributes and habits necessary to reach our full potential and be successful in anything in life:

1) Daily Effort: It is of utmost importance to remember that although continuous actions for good result in habits that are good, temptation and pornography will still abound ... often daily. Thus, the necessity of controlling our thoughts and developing self control must be a daily effort. Just as we would practice daily for a sport or learning an instrument, or putting forth the daily effort to succeed in school or work - the same DAILY effort is required to fight this moral battle.

2)Turn off the TV: Although in some instances it is impossible to avoid this evil, we can do more. Don't visit that website, do something other than watch TV, don't go see that movie, put down the magazine, don't enter the pop-up or advertisement, turn the channel during that commercial, etc. It's hard, it takes discipline, and even if 'everyone else is doing it' ... you must not! In fact, this is more than just avoiding pornography. We need to turn off the TV more and stop wasting time 'surfing the web,' and instead, pick up an educational book or spend an hour developing a talent, exercising, or working on an entrepreneurial venture - these are a few of the reasons people are successful, accomplish great things, and acquire much wealth.

3)Control Your Thoughts: Do you actually realize the power of your thoughts? Thoughts literally convert into actions. Thus, whatever it is that we entertain on the stage of our own minds will in time become our very actions, habits, and character. You may not have asked or chosen to view the image, but you certainly have the choice as to whether or not to keep that image playing on the screen of your mind. If you can learn the art of controlling your thoughts, you have won half the battle to succeed at anything in life!

4)Remember the Consequences: Realize now that the fruits of pornography are: momentary gratification and lustful pleasure followed by immediate shame, guilt, fear, embarrassment, and possible failure. Eventually addictions form, curiosity heightens, people become past feeling, and the result - marriages end, families are torn apart, fortunes lost, dreams not realized, and crimes perhaps even committed to satisfy a lust (or possibly reach that 'dream'). From a strictly financial or potential perspective, viewing pornography will always lower one's self-confidence, result in addictions that waste time, cost money, and tear apart important relationships. To be successful in anything, we must have clear minds, high self-esteem, never be idle mentally or physically, and protect and enhance all important relationships in our life.

5)Difference Between 'True Love' and 'True Lust': Love is attraction, affection, and even sexuality - but more than that, 'true love' requires work, effort, change, sacrifice, compassion, discipline, and unselfishness. And yet, the entertainment of the world promotes images and messages that over time convince us that 'lust' is actually 'love.' In every sense of the word, 'lust' is instant and temporary gratification that is easily obtained, and is the epitome of selfishness. Success in life - in business pursuits, academic endeavors, family life, or personal goals - will never be achieved if we cannot first learn how to control our minds, discipline our actions, implement the attributes of 'true love', and daily conquer this moral battle.

6)Idle Minds & Actions are the Seedbed for Disaster: The moment you find yourself idle either mentally or physically, you must know that this should be the first warning sign of possible danger ahead. 'Surfing the web' alone, or with nothing else to do; watching a movie that perhaps should not be viewed; flipping through a magazine; or going into the pop-up just out of 'curiosity' - these are the first idle steps to inevitable temptation (and eventual failure). Decide now to have integrity when alone, and make a rule to never 'surf the web' when you feel lonely, depressed, frustrated, tired, or with nothing else to do. This isn't just about you - this is about every relationship that is important to you: spouse, children, family, friends, and even business relationships. Successful people are not idle mentally or physically, and they certainly never allow others to entice them to use their minds, talents, and time that will only result in weakness, guilt, failure, and possible destruction.

7)Deciding in the Moment of Temptation is Too Late: Decide right now that you will NOT enter that website, rent that movie, or watch that TV show. Decide now what your limits are, and never cross them. Write your decision down on paper, put it in a place seen often and review it daily, and completely commit to the decision made in the moment of clarity of mind (not when you must decide in that fleeting hour of lust, selfishness, temporary gratification, and temptation). The ability to DECIDE NOW, and stick to that plan (regardless of what comes up) is an indication of a successful individual. We often are faced with opportunities that if we can't develop the ability to be assertive, take a risk, make a decision, be disciplined, and follow through with that - we'll never accomplish anything worthwhile in life.

8)Absolutely No Excuses: Always remember that the media, individuals, and companies everywhere have one goal - to make money. Thus, they entice us to buy their product by luring us in with sexually exciting, pornographic, and addicting images and messages. Regardless of this fact, there is never an excuse for looking at and becoming involved in this filth. It does not matter if you are just 'curious' - don't look, don't go into that advertisement, don't watch that show or visit that website. And realize that the moment you hear yourself saying or thinking these things, you are headed for trouble, addictions, misery, and possible failure. When you hear yourself saying: it won't hurt anyone, it's my choice, everyone is doing it, I am just curious, it's not that bad, I need to know so I am not ignorant, my friends want/force me to, etc. Stop! Turn away immediately. Be proactive. Be disciplined. Don't give excuses. Just turn away and don't get involved.

This is more than simply not looking at pornography - this is developing the ability to acquire the necessary discipline and attributes that are essential to success in anything in life. Just like any success, overcoming pornography requires desire, belief that it is possible, learning how to control your thoughts, putting forth daily effort, not being idle, deciding now and having a plan, and then sticking to that plan regardless (without ever quitting - or giving excuses). This is the formula to both avoiding pornography and also achieving success in anything in life.
